The White Lover for the Sweet Lover

The Valentine’s Day is just right on its way now. As a single dog (this is the way the young singles call themselves in China, young generations only, although I think this looks not fair to dogs sometimes), I bought a very famous and popular Japanese Valentine snack – the White Lover chocolate (白い恋人, Shiroi Koibito). I’ve been waiting for a long time hope that someone can buy me a White Lover as a gift. Unfortunately, another lonely new year came and I don’t want to wait anymore, so I bought it by myself.

White Lover is a European-style cookie manufactured and sold by Japanese confectionery maker Ishiya Co., Ltd. in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It consists of white chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of thin, crispy but soft langue de chat.

Processed with VSCO with a8 presetJapanese products always give people an image of delicate and concise, and these also are the two words for White Lover. The chocolate sandwich is in a very cute, simple square shape with a bright, warm yellow appearance. The outside cookies are a kind of traditional French biscuit – langue de chat. Stirring the cream at room temperature with the same amount of sugar; add wheat flour, egg whites, and vanilla inside; put the mixture into a baking oven, and then the delicious langue de chat comes out. Although the chocolate is slightly harder than the outer cookies, the sweetness of the smooth chocolate chip is perfectly matched with the cookies’ soft but crisp taste. Your teeth will experience a very interesting feeling when you bite down.

Some people may think White Lover is a bit too sweet. However, I don’t think this should be a problem makes people refuse it because tea or coffee is always the best choice go by sweets. Moreover, chocolate for love should be sweet, isn’t it? Besides, Asia desserts are usually less sugar based on my experiences.

Another thing I appreciate about White Lover is its package design. As the company introduced, the president of the Ishiya Co. was deeply touched by the peak when he visited Mount Rishiri, so he not only used the snow color on the peak as the base color of the package, but also put a picture of Rishiri on the package.

I’m not sure is there any market around West Lafayette or Lafayette sales the Whiter Lover. Since it has to be finished within three months, it usually sales in the airport in  Hokkaido or other local markets in Japan. However, I do find some online shops are selling White Lover. It may costs nearly 30 bucks for 24 pieces when you buy it online in America.
